I have been searching the Internet for hours with no luck. Supermicro drive limit on oboard LSI Raid controllers.

I found out that the mfi module might fix this issue: The "Direct" option defines that the data to be read is read from the hard disk directly and is also not stored in the controller cache. This bug affects 3 people.

This is a major issue, since it's hampering installation of Ubuntu Server on our servers.

If a data block is requested, "Read ahead" causes further sequentially following data blocks to be already read from the hard disk to the cache of the controller just in case, and in the hope that they will be called for in subsequent requests.
